How to Get Here
Leaving Ennis travel along the M18 to Galway for approximately 10 km north. Take the exit signposted for Crusheen. At the first roundabout take the third exit signposted for Barefield. After approximately 1 km take the road to the right signposted for Dromore Nature Reserve. Follow the sign posts on this minor road for about 4 km to the Reserve entrance.
Leaving Gort follow the M18 road to Ennis and take the exit signposted for Crusheen following the above directions.
The entrance and main access road is suitable for vehicular access and winds its way for 2.4 km to a car park and Information Centre.
Visitor Information Centre
The free-to-enter Information Centre, which houses a small exhibition reflecting the nature of Dromore Wood, is open during the summer months. There are two gravelled walks along with five trails of varying lengths up to 7 km.
The only requests are that dogs are kept under control, litter is taken home, that the flowers and plants including fruits and nuts are not disturbed, that the peace of other visitors is respected and, for safety reasons, visitors should keep to the paths.
Dromore Wood Nature Reserve can be located 10 km north of Ennis on the M18. Take exit 15 for Crusheen then R458 for 1 km and follow the sign to the right. Follow this minor road for about 4 km and it will bring you to the Reserve entrance. Follow the entrance road to the car parking area and trail head. But beware; you may never want to leave!
The Nature Reserve is free to access and open all year to the public.
The Visitor Information Centre is open seasonally between May and August, re-opening on Monday 2nd May for the 2016 season. Opening days and times are as follows:
May: Saturdays and Sunday - 10.00 am-5.00 pm (closed 1-2pm).
June: 7 days a week - 10.00 am-5.00 pm (closed 1-2pm)
July and August: 7 days a week - 10.00 am-6.00 pm (closed 1-2pm).
An automatic barrier is in operation throughout the year at the entrance to the Nature Reserve. Visitors are asked to take note of the following barrier closing times when planning their visit:
Last Sunday in October to last Sunday in March - 6.00 pm to 8.00 am
Last Sunday in March to last Sunday in October - 7.30 pm to 8.00 am
