Saturday 19th May: Wildflowers, Mammals and Rocks!

Guided walk – 10.15

Learn more about the mammals inhabiting the woodlands, the diversity of wildflowers in the species-rich grasslands and the rock formation that took place in the Burren over millions of years. This guided walk starts at 10.15 from the trailhead of the National Park and will last approximately 1.5-2 hrs. Dress appropriately for the terrain and weather.

Saturday 19th May: Minibeast Hunt

Kid walk – 14.15

Explore the beauty and fascination of some of the smallest and often overlooked creatures in the Burren National Park. Children will learn about food chains and food webs, Irish ecosystems and how small daily actions can help promote and conserve our natural environment. Bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! Dress appropriately for the terrain and weather. No dogs please. Numbers are strictly limited so book early!

Sunday 20th May: Bird Identification – 9.00 to 12.00

Tweeting event on the Crag Road and meadows of the Burren National Park for anyone interested in bird plumage, courtship and songs. A guide will be present to answer your questions while binoculars, scopes and books will be available to use. Feel free to pop in between 9.00 and 12.00.

Sunday 20th May: What is Biodiversity?

Guided walk – 14.15

We hear a lot about biodiversity these days, but what does it actually mean? On this guided walk, learn about the variety of living things and their habitats in the Burren National Park, some of the fascinating connections between them, and why they are worth protecting for all our sakes. This guided walk starts at 14.15 and will last approximately 1.5-2 hrs. Dress appropriately for the terrain and weather.

Tuesday 22nd May: Bat Talk and Walk – 21.15

Join us for an illustrated presentation about Irish bats followed by a bat walk through the village of Corofin. This event will last approximately 1.5-2 hrs. Please bring a torch and a bat detector if you have one. Family friendly. Numbers are strictly limited so book early!

Thursday 24th May: Pine Marten talk– 14:30

To celebrate Biodiversity Week, the Burren National Park is delighted to announce a pine marten talk presented by Ruth Hannify from the Vincent Wildlife Trust. The Burren, with its mature ash/hazel woodland is considered to be the pine marten’s Irish stronghold. If you are fascinated by pine marten behaviour, curious about their ecology, concerned about their conservation in Ireland or simply interested in learning more about this elusive mammal, come along! The talk should last approximately 1.30-2 hours.

Saturday 26th May: Photographic Scavenger Hunt – 10.15

Join National Parks and Wildlife Service Visitor Guides for a photographic scavenger hunt in the Burren National Park. Find and photograph a selection of the flora, fauna and habitats that contribute to the diversity of this unique landscape. Bring: your favourite photographic device (camera, mobile phone, tablet, etc.). Dress appropriately for the terrain and weather.

Saturday 26th May: Pollinator Promenade

Guided walk – 14.15

Join us for an exploration into the fascinating world of our pollinators. We will be looking for some of our buzzing bees, hovering flies and dancing butterflies. We will also look at some of our wildflowers and the interactions between flowers and pollinating insects, and how we can help them. This walk is suitable for people of all ages.
